American Express expands travel program with Accor partnership

Oct 27, 2005

With the recent addition of the Accor Hotel chain into its fold, the American Express’ Business Travel Preferred Extras Hotel Program now offers travel managers and frequent travelers preferred rates and extra amenities at over 5,400 leading hotels worldwide.

“The Business Travel Preferred Extras Program has grown substantially over the last year, and we can now offer our customers the best available unrestricted rates from hotel chains including Hilton International, Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Shangri-La, Radisson, Carlson Hotels, Choice Hotels, Taj, Okura, Raffles and Mirvac,” said Vice President and Head of Supplier Relations Simon Keys.

According to Keys, clients who have used the program have reported savings of up over $1.5 million each year on hotel savings, and up to a 60% improvement in policy adherence. “We believe that it is becoming outdated to only offer our customers a flat negotiated rate – we are looking at more dynamic pricing models which we believe give our customers the best deal,” he revealed.

Unlike many online travel agencies, travelers can still earn points with their hotel loyalty programs despite availing of the Preferred Extras Program. Customers can also enjoy added freedom and flexibility since there are no advance purchase requirements, non-standard cancellation fees nor minimum stay requirements.
