Air Berlin launches UK domestic flights

Nov 7, 2005
Air Berlin is expanding its presence in the UK travel market by creating the first ever transfer hub at London Stansted, adding domestic UK routes to its schedule and expanding the number of international flights.
Starting December 16, Air Berlin will fly twice daily from Stansted to airports in Berlin, Dusseldorf and Nuremberg, and once a day to Munster/Osnabruck, Paderborn and Nuremburg. Hannover and Paderborn will be connected twice a day starting May. Air Berlin will also increase the number of London-Leipzig/Halle flights from three to seven per week.
This is the first time Stansted will be used by any airline as a transfer hub. With the Air Berlin hub, passengers from other UK airports who wish to travel to Germany via Stansted can do so easily while their luggage is automatically transported to the connecting plane. Average transfer times will be 45 to 60 minutes.
The new routes can be booked immediately on the Air Berlin website (airberlin.com), via the airline’s 24-hour service center, (0870 738 88 80) or through travel agents. Early bookers can fly from £19 for one-way shuttle flights to London Stansted, inclusive of all taxes, charges and on board service. The price for a ticket with an onward connection to Germany starts at £29. In addition, Air Berlin says there are reductions for children up to 12 and opportunities to collect bonus air miles.
