Blackpool International Airport has broken ground for the construction of its new £2m terminal. The project is expected to be completed by February 2006, with Jet2.com becoming the first low cost airline to be based at the airport.
Airport officials say passengers will be rewarded with a more efficient and enjoyable airport experience with additional check-in desks, large open plan seating areas and a wider range of retail outlets. In addition, a new extension to the west of the terminal building, new interior décor and greater use of natural light will help create a spacious and airy environment.
Paul Whelan, Executive Chairman of City Hopper Airports Ltd, the owners of Blackpool International Airport, commented: "We are continually attracting new airlines and offering more destinations. The airport is therefore committed to invest in excellent facilities for both passengers and the airlines that fly to and from Blackpool."
