SYHA celebrates 75th anniversary with outdoor breaks

Feb 13, 2006

As part of the 75th anniversary celebrations, the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA) is offering outdoor activity breaks that include two or five nights’ accommodation, use of a pony, and basic riding instruction. Accommodation costs just £11-£17 per person per night.

Located in remote locations amid some of Scotland's finest scenery, SYHA’s rustic accommodations are ideal for visitors who want to get off-the-beaten-track and enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walking and climbing. SYHA also offers a range of activity holidays, from walking the West Highland Way long-distance trail to climbing the challenging Skye Munros, as well as a range of water sports, mountain biking and pony-trekking trips. All holidays are hostel-based and are led by qualified leaders.

Highlights include:

  • The West Highland Way - Walking on Scotland’s most famous long distance footpath, 95 miles long. The scenery, walking and companions from all over the world make this an unforgettable holiday with a strong international flavor. Includes seven days’ walking and six nights hostel accommodation with full board
  • Pony Trekking - Explore the Ochil Hills on the original ‘all-terrain’ vehicle, the Exmoor Pony. SYHA and Britain’s only working herd of Exmoor ponies offer weekend (two-day) and midweek (four-day) self-catering breaks from Glendevon Youth Hostel.

SYHA is undertaking a refurbishment program, including new furniture and interior decoration. A brand new flagship hostel in the capital, Edinburgh, is also expected to open late this year.
