VisitBritain has revealed the
line-up of short listed finalists for the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence
2006. The 33 short listed finalists showcase the broad range of tourism
businesses England has to offer, from a small local history museum in Suffolk
to one of the most high profile attractions in London; a Michelin-starred
B&B in Cornwall to a city centre self-catering property in historic York
and an ancestral home converted into a Country House Hotel outside Newcastle to
a holiday centre in the New Forest.
VisitBritain also announced
two new awards this year; the Taste of England Award rewarding businesses for
sourcing local produce, and the Best Tourism Experience Award that recognizes
achievements in tourism including events such as the Liverpool Biennial.
The 12 categories for 2006
are: Large Hotel of the Year (over 35 bedrooms), Small Hotel of the Year (under
50 bedrooms), Self-catering Holiday of the Year, Bed & Breakfast of the
Year, Caravan Holiday Park of the Year, Tourist Information Centre (TIC) of the
Year, Large Visitor Attraction of the Year (over 100,000 visitors), Small
Visitor Attraction of the Year (under 100,000 visitors), Business Tourism
Award, Outstanding Customer Service Award, Taste of England Award and Best
Tourism Experience of the Year.
The winners will be announced
at a national awards ceremony on April 20 to be held at Madame Tussauds in London.
