According to the results of
the Low Cost Carrier Monitor (LCCM), low cost flights are still in popular
demand among consumers in the five key European markets. The most advanced
market for low cost flights is the UK, where 41% of consumers claim to
have flown with an airline offering low cost flights at some time or other.
This puts user rate two or three times higher than in the other four countries.
In addition, the survey found
that the basic market potential for low cost flights stands at 58%. This means
that a large proportion of the potential British market for the low cost
flights has already been tapped. In a direct comparison between the survey
countries, this figure is the highest.
LCCM is a consumer survey
conducted in Germany, France, the UK,
Italy and Spain by TNS Infratest. It covered
a series of over 13,000 interviews, including 5,000 current users of low cost
airlines. Traffic experts at TNS Infratest gathered extensive data on the
structure of low cost flights, the assessment of airlines offering low cost
flights and the potential for low cost flights in the relevant countries.
