Thomas Cook announced that it
is expanding its flying program from Nottingham
East Midlands
Airport to cope with strong
passenger demand.
The airline, which has
operated from East Midlands since 2001, had
based a 180-seat A320 airbus at the airport only during summer months. Recently,
airline officials decided to base a 235-seat Boeing 757 in the airport
throughout the year. The move, which will provide 22,000 extra seats to the
region, has also created around 12 new local jobs for cabin crew.
“Nottingham East Midlands is
a very impressive airport and has become an increasingly important base for us.
We are delighted to be able to expand our program to cope with growing demand,”
said Ian Smith, Operations Director of Thomas Cook Airlines.
The airline offers a wide
program from East Midlands to favourite hotspots including the Canaries, the
Balearics, mainland Spain,
the Greek Islands
and Turkey.
Nottingham EastMidlands Airport,
which was recently voted Best UK Airport in a major travel industry awards
scheme, offers flights to over 90 destinations across Europe, Africa, North
America and Mexico.
