Blackpool International
Airport has formally opened a newly
renovated Squires Gate terminal, which was refurbished to the tune of £2
million. The airport now has the capacity to handle two million passengers a
year, and currently flies to more than 20 European destinations.
Paul
Whelan, Executive Chairman of City Hopper Airports Ltd which took over the
operation of Blackpool
International Airport
in 2004, stressed that the airport’s redevelopment had been achieved in a very
cost effective way. “The airport’s new facilities have been designed to offer
passengers maximum convenience and unrivalled value for money making it a truly
‘low cost’ airport in the heart of Lancashire and the North West,” he explains.
Blackpool
officials say the newly designed county airport is already attracting
passengers from across Lancashire, from Lancaster and Garstang in the North, to
Preston and beyond to Blackburn, Darwen and Burnley.
Moreover, with a growing portfolio of flight destinations, it is also bringing
tourists to Lancashire and Cumbrian tourist
spots.
