High-speed passenger train service Eurostar
has welcomed the announcement of plans to restore the historic building that
fronts St. Pancras International station into a five-star hotel. St. Pancras
International station is expected to become a high speed rail gateway to
Continental Europe when Eurostar moves from Waterloo International in autumn
2007.
Eurostar has plans to operate within the
restored Victorian grand station alongside the new hotel. The train operator
says the setup provides an even faster and more convenient rail journeys to France and Belgium,
with London - Paris
down to 2hrs 15mins and London - Brussels in just 1hr
51mins. Moreover, business and leisure travelers are expected to benefit from
modern facilities that are part of a total regeneration of the King’s Cross St.
Pancras area, just ten minutes from the City and West End of London.
“We are delighted that the fantastic
landmark which fronts our future international station is planned to be a
flagship, five-star hotel from 2009. St. Pancras will become the UK’s
gateway to the Continent in autumn 2007, and we look forward to operating
within a truly European destination station,” says Simon Montague, Director of
Communications, Eurostar.
